Divorce Education

"Children in the Middle"

When Parents Divorce What Happens to the Kids?

Divorce is a difficult time for everyone--Mom, Dad, the kids, even grandparents and extended family. This class offers participants to learn how to cope with high emotions, changing roles, responsibilities and relationships. Participants will learn how and why children react differently and strategies to make things better for everyone.

THIS COURSE IF FOR ADULTS. DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN.

Remember, how you are coping will impact how the kids are adjusting to the changes.
The adults in their lives are divorcing each other, not the children. Kids need to be connected and involved in the lives of both parents.
Iowa law requires that parents of children under 18 (Section 598-19A I.C.) must complete a mandatory parent education class before dissolution of marriage is granted by Iowa courts. Courts may also require this class if you are parent of a child who has never been married to your child's "other parent" or you are revisiting a previous order related to support, custody, or visitation.
Southwest Iowa Families, Inc. offers the 4-hour class which has been approved by the Fourth and Fifth Judicial Districts to meeting the requirements of the law.
The class is normally held the 3rd Saturday of each month 1:00-5:00 p.m. Cost is $35 with registration and payment required in advance.
